You probably have seen a pug perform in a circus. Or on television. Pugs are a very intelligent breed of dogs and people have been training pugs since ages to do some really neat tricks.

But before you reach out for a giant ring and drag your pug out to your front yard, be warned that training pugs is not a very easy task. Pugs are naturally stubborn animals and they do sometimes think differently on their own. Who would have known that behind that black, wrinkled and ugly face is a sharp mind that, although intelligent enough to be taught, can also be stubborn enough to be disobedient.

Even the most important and basic training for all dogs, house training, can sometimes be a real pain in the neck for the pug’s owner. But you know what? There is one thing that can break that stubbornness and it usually comes in sweet packages.

When you find that your pug is quite hard headed and wouldn’t follow your orders while you’re training it, you can always throw it a dog biscuit or two. But some dog experts say that it would be best to only reward your pug with a sweet treat whenever it follows your commands. This would instill into the dog that what it is doing is good and he would be rewarded each time he does it.

Perhaps equally important during the process of training pugs is that the trainer himself observe proper patience. While a pug is a sociable and intelligent animal, making it obey your every command is a completely different matter. Don’t rush things. Take your time and you will soon realize how rewarding it is to train your adorable little pugs.
